Soft Tissue Therapies in Sturgis

Therapies for Muscle Pain and Tightness

Many patients come in with tight muscles, nagging knots, or pain that returns as soon as they go back to work, the ranch, or the gym.

Our team looks beyond the spine to the muscles, fascia, and tendons that support every move you make. By addressing these tissues directly, the goal is to reduce pain and help you move more comfortably in everyday life.

What Are Soft Tissue Therapies?

At our practice, soft tissue therapies are hands-on care focused on muscles and the myofascial system (the web of tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles). Dr. Gunderson and Dr. Goebel often use Active Release Technique, a specific method where the doctor applies pressure to a tight area while you gently move the muscle to help break up adhesions and restore motion. They may also use Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), which involves using smooth tools over the skin and tissues to help reduce scar tissue and “sticky” areas. These techniques are evidence-informed, and we tailor the pressure and movement to your comfort level and goals.

Conditions Soft Tissue Care Can Help Address

Soft tissue therapies can be used on their own or combined with chiropractic adjustments, rehab exercises, shockwave, or laser. They are often recommended when tight, irritated muscles are a big part of your problem. Soft tissue care may help with:

  • Muscle knots and trigger points
  • Myofascial pain and stiffness
  • Sports or ranch work overuse injuries
  • Irritation around the shoulder, elbow, hip, or knee

What to Expect During Your Visit

Your doctor will start by asking where you hurt, what activities bother it, and how it affects your day. They’ll feel the area, checking for tight bands, tender spots, and restricted motion before choosing the right soft tissue approach for you. Most patients describe the session as “good pressure” and often notice easier movement or less tightness soon after.
